Recorded in Toxteth, Liverpool, 2024/25
Growing up in an Northern English mining town I was given a trumpet as soon as I had my two front teeth. I'm fascinated by brass instruments of all shapes and sizes and through the music of Beirut was introduced to Balkan and gypsie brass. With Postcards From Istanbul I've tried my best to combine introspective folk songs with the fanfare and fun of Balkan brass.Â
Over lockdown I became fascinated with the city of Istanbul and read lots of poetry and prose about the city. This interest slowly turned into writing prompts and song inspiration that eventually morphed into this album!
